
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Ilex opaca
COMMON NAME: American holly
FLOWERS: Dioecious.
FRUIT: Large red fruit that are very attractive. Every once in a while in the wild a plant will have yellow fruit.
GROWTH HABIT: Grows up to 75' tall and 15' to 20' wide.
LEAVES: Similar to Ilex x attenuata 'Savannah', but thicker and less flexible. Rectangular and up to 3" long.
OTHER: Hardy from zones 5 to 9. Native tree. Leave it on the site if found. Shiny red fruit is most common, but it may also have yellow fruit. This is definitely best used as a tree.
