SCIENTIFIC NAME: Ilex crenata 'Compacta'

COMMON NAME: compacta Japanese holly

FLOWERS: Staminate. Male plant.

GROWTH HABIT: Grows 3' to 5' tall. Bigger that Ilex crenata 'Helleri'

LEAVES: Are flat, widest above the middle, and taper to the base. Less than 1/2" long. Dark green.

OTHER: Hardy to zone 6. Biggest selling Japanese holly. New twig growth is purple. All male plants so there is no fruit. Needs to be watered. Is used as a foundation planting. Grows in full sun to part shade. Japanese hollies are not drought tolerant. Excellent foundation plant.
