SCIENTIFIC NAME: Salix nigra

COMMON NAME: black willow

LEAVES: Serrate, long and narrow. Up to 5" long.

BARK: Peels up on its side.

OTHER: Grows 30' to 50' tall. Native to low, moist sites. Bad landscape tree due to its invasive root system and limb die-back. Wetland reclamation is the most common landscape use for this species.
