SCIENTIFIC NAME: Broussonetia papyrifera

COMMON NAME: paper mulberry

LEAVES: Very pubescent on top, bottom, and petiole. Scabrous on top. Can have 3 leaf shapes on the same tree (3 lobed, 2 lobed mitten, and no lobes). Alternate, opposite, and whorled leaves on the same tree. Smaller leaf than Morus rubra.

BARK: Grey, shallow ridged and furrowed.

OTHER: Bad landscape tree (suckers badly and short lived). Yellow fall color is not very good. Grows 30' to 50' tall. Leaves were used to make paper in China. A member of the Moraceae family. Drops leaves in late summer. Volunteer trees come up everywhere in cities and can become a nuisance.
