SCIENTIFIC NAME: Quercus nuttallii

COMMON NAME: Nuttall oak

LEAVES: 7 (5 - 9) lobes and glabrous. Deep irregular sinuses (alternate up the leaf) with a reddish petiole sometimes. Narrow lobes with few bristle tips at the end of the lobes. Is longer (up to 6") and narrower than Quercus palustris. Red fall color.

BARK: Gray and ridge and furrowed.

OTHER: Buds are small. Becoming more popular in the trade. Native to low/moist sites with high pH. Easy to transplant. Memphis, TN has planted a lot of this species. Grows 60' to 80' tall. Will tolerate more drought than pin oak and can be a substitute on dry sites.
