Research Program Focus:

  • use of cover crops and reduced tillage for vegetable production
  • nutrient management
  • double cropping using plasticulture
  • studying the effect of mulch color on the production of Cole crops
    exploring the potential of alternative vegetable crops in Alabama such as asparagus and pumpkins

working directly with small, part-time, and full-time commercial vegetable growers in terms of...

  • solving production problems
  • developing irrigation and fertigation schedules
  • improving cultural practices
  • designing irrigation systems
  • encouraging vegetable growers to try a new or different ideas and alternative vegetable crops through on-farm research and demonstrations
  • developing new and comprehensive vegetable production guides
  • conducting in-service training for county agents
