History

The Auburn University Department of Horticulture was formed in 1906, although horticulture classes were first taught at Auburn University in the 1890's. Since that time we have grown into one of the largest and oldest horticulture departments in the United States with over 200 students enrolled each year since 1996.

The unprecedented, yet sustained growth of undergraduate enrollment in the Department of Horticulture can be attributed to many factors, including demand for Auburn Horticulture graduates nationwide. In addition, we believe it has much to do with our Core Philosophy: The success of the Department of Horticulture's teaching program is built on the success of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends.
