Experiments were conducted at Auburn University during the period of September, 1971, to February, 1972, to control Plistophora ovariae Summerfelt, in the ovary of the golden shiner and Henneguya exilis Kudo, on the gill of channel catfish by applying Fumidil-B, Bycyclohexylammonium Fumagillin, as a food additive with doses of 300 and 500 mg/lb. of fish and by intraperitoneal-injection at rates of 50 and 100 mg/lb. of fish.Fumidil-B was not effective in controlling P. ovariae and H. exilis when given as a food additive but the numbers of cysts (P. ovariae) in the ovary of the golden shiner decreased following intraperitoneal injection of Fumidil-B of 100 mg/lb. of fish. Injection rates were increased to 300 mg/lb of fish without producing mortality in the fish. The results of the effect of the Fumidil-B in reducing the number of cysts of P. ovariae and H. exilis were not conclusive because of (1) failure to obtain uniform infections in the hosts: (2) a low number of observations in combination with hosts of different ages: and (3) infection rates produced a high sampling error.
