Brian Perkins was hired as an extension seafood technologist by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System in 1985. He worked out of the Mobile Marine Extension and Research Center, later known as Auburn University Marine Extension and Research Center ( AUMERC ), assisting Alabama seafood processors. Brian played the leading role in assisting Alabama and other Gulf Coast seafood processors meet mandatory federal seafood inspection standards called HACCP ( Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points ). He also helped Alabama catfish farmers develop the Alabama Catfish Quality Assurance Program. Brian passed away in 2002 after 17 years with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
