Bill
Hosking was employed by Auburn University Extension Service in 1977 as a marine
resources economist working out of the Mobile office. Bill became coordinator
of the marine resources extension and research program ( AUMERC ) and the Alabama Sea
Grant program in 1981. Bill was the first director of AUMERC. He was granted tenure and promoted to full professor
within the Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures in 1988. Bill
continued to provide economic assistance to Alabama commercial seafood
processors and commercial and recreational fishers. He retired in 1999 after 21
years of service to the Alabama University Extension Service. He was awarded
Professor Emeritus status at retirement. Bill is standing in front of a new AUMERC boat named after him at the time of his retirement.
