Description: Fish can be aged by looking at its polished otolith under a microscope. The otolith is a bone-like structure found in the inner ear. Each band is one-year -of growth ( age ) much like the bands of a tree trunk. Otolith aging is especially useful with scaleless fish such as a catfish.
