Summary/Recommendations/Objectives:

l. The impingment
rate of fish and shellfish on intake

screens at the Gaston
Steam Plant were determined to

not have a significant effect on populations of these

organisms in the
Coosa River.

2. No rare or endangered species of fish or shell fish

were collected
during impingement studies, nor are

there any rare or
endangered species expected to be

affected by plant
operation.

3. Phytoplankton standing
crops at sampling stations

within the thermal plume
were usually lower than

those of the
upstream control station when water

temperatures
exceeded 32°C. Some recovery was

usually evident at the
sampling station furthest

downstream.
Qualitative differences were not

evident.
