Summary/Recommendations/Objectives:

This 1995 study is the 25th annual survey of biological communities in the Conecuh-Escambia River
system conducted by the Rivers and Reservoirs LaboratOIY of the Department of Fisheries and Allied
Aquacultures, Auburn University. Prior to the Aubum studies, the Institute of Paper Chemistry (Appleton,
Wisconsin) conducted 15 biological studies in the river. This annual survey is the longest continuous field study
ever conducted by the Fisheries Department.
Water quality, phytoplankton, chlorophyll, macroinvertebrates and fish were sampled at stations above
and below the discharge from the Container Corporation of America (CCA) paper mill. As in previous years,
sampling was conducted during low Oow periods in August through September. Sampling was initiated on 17
August 1995 and completed on 14 September 1995. The objective of this study was to detemline if the CCA
waste effluent was influencing water quality downstream from the outfall. The results of the 1995 study are
summarized in
