L.C. Graham

Fudd's research evaluates integrated pest management methods for red imported fire ant control in Alabama.  Fudd tests the efficacy and efficiency of targeted broadcast baits and mound treatments in urban landscapes and rural agricultural operations/ home sites in Alabama. He is also the coordinator of the fire ant biological control program in Alabama.  This program evaluates the effectiveness of two biological control agents: a phorid fly and a microsporidan.

Arthur Appel

Arthur's research currently focuses on the energetics of foraging and load carriage of red imported fire ants.  Since 1999, Arthur and his lab have been determining desiccation tolerance and water budgets of alate red imported fire ants.

Henry Fadamiro

Henry's research evaluates the foraging and host location behavior of Pseduacteon phorid flies that attack the red imported fire ant.  One major objective of this project is to demonstrate adult feeding and it's impact on longevity of phorid flies. His lab has also looked at the effect of temperature and mating on the survival of the adult phorid fly. Ongoing research in Henry's lab focuses on the chemical ecology and semiochemical cues used by phorid flies to locate fire ant hosts.

Kathy Flanders

Kathy's main focus is fire ant education and outreach.  She provides the public with information about fire ants by usingh exhibits and educational programs and conducts in-service training on fire ant management and application of bait using the Herd spreader.

Nannan Liu

Nannan's research is currently focused on characterizing the functional genomics of the red imported fire ant. Since 1999, Nannan and her lab have conducted research on the role of cytochrome P450 in fire ant development to aid in the understanding of fire ant population genetics and diversity.

Mike Williams

Mike and his lab conducted a survey to determine the presence and distribution of species of native and exotic ants in Alabama.  The results of this project were used to increase the basic understanding of the ant fauna of Alabama and the impact of imported fire ants on ant diversity.
