For home/yard treatment, fire ant baits or direct mound treatment may give the most satisfactory, cost-effective control. Fire ant baits work to eliminate colonies by disrupting the reproductive potential of the queen. Baits are most effective when applied in the afternoon at temperatures between 70-80° F. Direct mound treatment may best be achieved by a applying a dust or granular insecticide.
