The Journal of Rural Social Sciences seeks to publish reviews of recent books on rural topics that use the theoretical and methodological perspectives of the social sciences. The Book Review Editor will solicit reviewers for recently published books, but volunteer submissions of book reviews are also welcome.
Does the book have a clear and significant thesis and methodology?
Is it timely or path breaking?
How does the book contribute to the literature?
What is the quality of the author’s research and sources?
Is it well written and clearly organized?
What are the strengths and weaknesses?
To what audience is the book directed, and will it serve that audience well?
Would the book be suitable for graduate and/or undergraduate courses?
The review should be headed using the following example as a guide:
