Mission:
Alabama Arise is a coalition of 150 religious and community groups that promote fairer state policies toward low-income Alabamians.
Specific Issues:
Housing: Alabama is one of two states with no landlord-tenant law. Arise supports Rep.Laura Hall's bill, H.B. 200.
Tax Reform: Alabama has an unfair tax system. Low-income Alabamians pay 11.5% of their incomes in state and local taxes, while the top 1% pay only 3.6%. Arise's Income Tax Reform Plan would change that disparity.
Transportation: Arise wants to end Alabama's constitutional prohibition against spending gas taxes on public transportation.
Moratorium on Executions: Alabama's death penalty is not fair to low-income Alabamians. We support a three-year halt to executions to allow a study of the fairness of the system.
Interests: Health Care, Education Reform, Welfare Reform, and Unfair Lending Practices.
