For generally optimistic views, see the Alabama Treasure Forests Association and Alabama Forests Forever. The Nature Conservancy in Alabama gives a good summary of the status of endangered species in Alabama and provides excellent suggestions on where to go in Alabama to enjoy the outdoors.
