The USDA offers an introductory tour of the history of American agriculture, a tour that briefly covers most of the topics introduced in the Introductory Essay, and that serves as the best introduction for what follows. Each topic is described through about one page of text and a few clear illustrative graphs. The historical trends for a half-dozen major cultigens (corn) or animals (broilers) are covered in the same way.
