A brief history of the Butler/Cunningham grant is available through the link at the left. The major activity of the Butler/Cunningham grant described on this web site is the endowment of an Eminent Scholar in Agriculture and the Environment for the College of Agriculture of Auburn University.

The current scholar is Dr. Claude E. Boyd, of the Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures. Information on Dr. Boyd and his activities as Eminent Scholar can be found through the link to him. While Eugene Butler and Emory Cunningham provided some general guidelines for the activities of the scholar, the specific activities have been determined largely by the scholar.

Among other activities, Dr. Boyd has begun a series of annual conferences on Agriculture and the Environment in Alabama. The first conference was held in November 2002 in Birmingham. The results can be accessed through the links to the 2002, 2003, and 2004 Conferences, to the lower left. The 2004 conference will be held in November 2004, but considerable information on it is already available.

We plan to provide additional information on the environment and on agriculture in Alabama on this website. As this information becomes available, it can be found through the respective links at upper left.

The College of Agriculture, and other sources, have provided this website with related materials and with visuals of interest, which material also can be accessed through the appropriate links to the upper left.

For ease in navigation, most subsequent pages in this website will have the same general layout as this page, but will have different colors and will have additional menus.

The colors reflect the "depth" of the page down from the home page. For example, the pages accessed through the buttons at the left would be one level down from this page, would be labelled level "1", would have a similar but not identical layout, and would have slightly different colors. And so forth.

Nearly all subsequent pages will have three menus. The first menu consists of a set of "rollover" buttons to the left, similar to those on this Home Page. Those rollover buttons indicate topics or further pages that are directly related to the page that you are on or continue directly from the page that you are on. For example, "US Agricultural Facts" continues directly from this Home Page.

At the top of each subsequent page, where on this page is a green bar, will be two drop-down menus (they do not appear here on this Home Page because they are not needed). The first drop down-menu takes you to pages with similar themes to the page that you are already on. For example, if you are on the Agricultural Facts Page, you can use the first drop down menu to go directly to the Environmental Facts Page. If clicking on a page does not work at first, click on "NULL to Clear Field" and then try again.

The second drop down menu takes you directly back to the Home Page and also to the main pages listed on the Home Page in its rollover buttons.

You should always be able to know exactly what level you are, where you are, and exactly how to get where you wish. If worse comes to worse, you can always return to this Home Page. Please experiment by going to the page for the most recent conference in the serices or to the page for Agricultural Facts.
