The Swine Research and Education Center (SREC) is a farrow-to-finish facility constructed in 2006. The center is under the management of Mike Carroll and Brian Anderson. Student employees are involved in all aspects of production, from breeding and delivery of piglets through feeding and care of hogs bound for processing at the Lambert-Powell Meats Laboratory. Several programs utilize the specialized facilities within SREC, including basic and applied research in swine nutrition, growth biology, reproductive biology and nutrient management. The SREC biosecurity practices, including shower-in, shower-out procedures for all employees and visitors, protect the health of the animals. |
