Auburn University Department of Animal Sciences hosted their local Academic Quadrathlon competition the week of October 21st. A total of seven teams participated in the event, with the winning team going on to represent Auburn at the regional contest.
Academic Quadrathlon teams consist of four students who work together on activities that test their knowledge and skills of animal science topics. Four events make up the contest: presentation, written exam, lab practicum and quiz bowl. The successful teams are knowledgable in current events in animal agriculture, have team members representing a wide range of animal-husbandry skills and subjects, and possess a competitive streak while having fun interacting with faculty members.
The top three teams were recognized at an awards dinner following the competition. The winning team of Reba Hicks, Courteney McNamee, Casey Randle and Brandon Smith had their names added to the permanent plaque hanging in Upchurch Hall. They will represent Auburn University at the contest held in conjunction with the Southern Section meeting of the American Society of Animal Scientists in early February. This year's meeting will be held in Birmingham, Al, with the lab practicum hosted at Auburn University.
