Activities

Fall Semester

B&B Round-Up:  This event is held at the beginning of each new school year to "round-up" B&B members, new and old, as well as ANSC/CoAg faculty and staff.  Everyone meets at Ham Wilson Livestock Arena for a night of fun "get-to-know-everybody" activities, a brief overview of who and what we are and do, as well as a guest speaker and a free dinner!

Junior Lamb & Goat Show:  Our Junior Lamb & Goat Show is the premier show in the Southeast to kick off the fall show season.  Help organize a livestock show, work with kids, and have some fun, too!! Held right before the start of fall semester, this is a great way to get back in touch with returning members before classes start back.

Ag Round-up: This event, held on Homecoming Saturday, is a combination of the Ag Alumni Association's Ag Round-up and Taste of Alabama Agriculture. All sorts of free food can be found, ranging anywhere from traditional southern cuisine to honey straws, hamburgers to catfish, and even goat sausage and emu meatballs! There are also exhibits from different academic organizations and commodity groups around the state, such as the Cattlemen's Association, and activities for kids, such as face painting. There is live music provided by local bands, some made up of Auburn Ag alumni and friends, plus an auction featuring all sorts of items. Block and Bridle runs a petting zoo with horses, sheep, a goat and a dairy calf. We also have club information set up to hopefully draw interest from students who will be starting at Auburn in the upcoming years.

Ag Olympics:  How far can you toss a bale of hay or a fresh egg?  How fast can you move a hay stack or fill a bucket with dirt using a post-hole digger?  Enter and find out!! Teams from different organizations in CoAg and students from other colleges compete for the honor of being crowned champion!

Ham Sale:  Each member is asked to sell at least one ham to raise money for the club. In addition to this, club members go to the meat lab and we "rub down" the hams ourselves. Not only is this another fun way to meet friends, but it gives the hams a personal touch. Like any organization, we need to earn money to support our other activities throughout the year.  The ham sale is one of our biggest, most important fundraisers of the year, and one of the most fun!

Thanksgiving Dinner:  a time when the club gets together to enjoy a good meal before finals. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share.

Intramural Football:  The club usually competes as a co-ed team. If you do not want to play, just come out and support the club.

Alex City Heritage Day:  We are invited by the Alex City School System. We carry livestock animals to the school that most students have not seen before. The students are allowed to ask questions and pet the animals. We also do a demonstration with a dairy cow to show them how a cow is milked.

Spring Semester

Academic Quadrathlon:  Teams of four people compete in a hands-on practical competition, a written test, an oral presentation, and a rapid-fire quiz bowl to see who will represent Auburn University at the regional level. This is a great opportunity to test your knowledge and to learn more than you'd think possible, all while building stronger friendships and having tons of fun!

National Block and Bridle Convention:  Travel to places such as Lexington, Washington DC, and San Antonio to represent Auburn, meet other agriculture students from all over the country, and have tons of fun! This is a great chance to learn more about agriculture, livestock, and the industry from tours, lectures, and fun events.

Little International Livestock Show:  Try your hand at gentling, grooming, and showing beef and dairy calves, horses and sheep.  It's a great way to get hands on experience with farm animals and learn more about the various species and related livestock industries. There are divisions for both the experienced and novice showman. Each division competes for each species, then the first place from each species competes in a "Round-Robin" competition to determine the Grand Champion. Even if you've never even SEEN livestock before, you are encouraged to sign up. It's great experience, and besides, it's tons of fun!

Intramural Softball: B&B members compete at slow pitch intramural softball with other clubs and organizations on campus for the title of Champions! Everybody is welcome, from the star athlete to the complete novice. The team is co-ed and coached by a volunteer member. Sign-up is announced near the beginning of the semester.

4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest:  We help 4-H and FFA Judging Teams sharpen their skills for upcoming district and state contests. This is our way of helping out the younger students in the southeast region.

Spring Banquet:  This event is a wind-up and review of the year. Awards given out include the Work Horse Award, Outstanding Junior, Outstanding Senior, Outstanding Newcomer, and the Wade Sullivan Scholarship that is presented to a new member of the club. The winners of Little I are recognized, newly elected officers for the next year are installed, and new honorary members are inducted. Other awards are also presented. Entertainment is provided including slide show recapping the year's activities and a guest speaker.

In addition to these, B&B members get together throughout the year to participate in various sales, community projects, and fun activities such as bowling, dancing, or skating to get to know each other better and to just hang out as friends.
