Welcome to Alabama's Land & Water Resources Information Center

The Alabama Land & Water Resource Informaion Center was established in 1993 within the Agronomy and Soils Department at Auburn University. It was orginally designed to promote the use of geo-spatial technologies and geographically based information to better manage Alabama's land resources with emphasis placed on soil and land use mapping. In recent years, more focus has been placed on using spatial technologies to support all of Alabama's natural resources to include water resources. These efforts may help minimize undesirable economic, social, and environmental impacts associated with farming, land development, and urban growth.

Goals

The Alabama Land and Water Resource Information Center's goals are to enhance the GIS, GPS, and remote sensing capabilities of teaching (College of Agriculture), research (Alabama Agriculture Experiment Station) and extension outreach (Alabama Cooperative Extension System).

Objectives

To develop and provide geo-spatial data, information, and training to AAES and ACES personnel so they can use this information and technology in their respective programs.
To collect, store, process, and provide geo-spatial information relevant to resource assessment, planning, management and problem remediation with Alabama.
To accelerate the use of geo-spatial technologies in the teaching, research, extension and public service misssions of Auburn University.
