Collaboration with Universidade Estadual Paulista (Sao Paulo State University)
As part of a broader continued collaboration at Auburn University, research and education collaborations are being established between weed science researchers at Auburn University and Sao Paulo State University in Botucatu, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Recently, Dr. Scott McElroy traveled to Sao Paulo to visit with Dr. Dagoberto Martins and former visiting scientist from UNESP Dr. Leonildo Cardoso. During his trip Dr. McElroy visited with other scientists, specifically Dr. Edivaldo Velini and Dr. Roberto Lyra Villas Boas, on collaborative research in herbicide physiology and turfgrass management.
While in Botucatu, Dr. McElroy was able to tour the impressive weed science research facilities at UNESP-Botucatu and the beautiful UNESP campus. Dr. McElroy also toured Xavier Gramas, a sod farm near Botucatu; Sao Manoel sugar cane processing plant near Sao Manoel; Fazenda da Grama Golf Course near Campinas; and nearby University of Sao Paulo in Piracicaba.
The state of Sao Paulo, Brazil is an impressive agricultural area. With its rolling hills and tropical forests it is also a very beautiful area. Dr. McElroy and other researchers hope to continue their collaboration in the future.
