Professional Activities:
Primary position is serving as the Water Quality Coordinator for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES). The primary responsibility associated with this position is coordinating water quality program efforts for ACES. Much of this is done in collaboration with other Extension State Water Quality Coordinators throughout the U.S. and CSREES Program Staff in Washington DC. As one of the national leaders working within USDA-CSREES' Water Quality Theme on Drinking Water and Human Health, have helped develop resource materials under this theme for CSREES' national web site (http://www.usawaterquality.org ). Have also coordinated development of a state water quality web site (http://www.aces.edu/waterquality ) that contains several regional and national databases for the National USDA-CSREES Water Quality Program. Other activities at the state level include extension education in all aspects of water quality and pollution prevention. Produce and present numerous educational resource materials to resource managers and professionals as well as individual public citizens through a number of outlets. Serve in an advisory capacity to professional agencies and organizations both within and outside of the university system in dealing with water and other natural resource problems and issues. Make recommendations on how to deal with water quality and other water resource issues on a regular basis. Research interests include spatial technology applications to resource assessment, management and protection, with special interest in geographic information system (GIS) applications. Have coordinated the development of a GIS laboratory within the Agronomy & Soils Department at Auburn University and have helped facilitate the development of a statewide GIS Council that involves input from 23 separate entities in Alabama.

Honors and Awards:
  • 2003 recipient of distinguished service award from Alabama Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi, the Extension honorary fraternity.
  • 2003 recipient of Alabama County Agricultural Agents and Specialist Association Communication Award for web page development.
  • 2003- made honorary member of Arab Healthy Water Association in Alex-Egypt because of Internet site addressing drinking water and human health.
  • 2003 - awarded a certificate of excellence by Alabama A&M University for participation in an environmental management and urban-rural interface conference hosted by that university.
  • 2000 - received Alabama Cooperative Extension System's extramural funding award for obtaining the most grant funds during the 2000 calendar year.
Professional Societies Membership:
  • Currently serving as member of two departmental committees.
  • Currently serving on 19 college, experiment station and extension committees, chairing two and have chaired 7 others in the past.
  • Have served on 10 university committees in the past, chairing two.
  • Currently serving on three regional committees, and have served on 10 other regional committees in the past, chairing seven.
  • Currently serving on four national/international committees/advisory groups and have served on four additional committees in the past. 6) Currently serving on six miscellaneous committees associated with various state organizations and county groups and served on 27 additional committees of this nature in the past.
