1988 - Present: Professor, Auburn University
1976-1988: Extension Agronomist, Auburn University

Professional Activities:
As Extension Forage Crops Agronomist at Auburn University, I am the only person assigned to do statewide forage crops extension work in Alabama. This is a challenging assignment because forage crops occupy more open land in Alabama than all other crops combined. In addition to providing nutrition for livestock, they are important in crop rotations, protect the environment by reducing soil erosion and improving water quality, and provide food and cover for wildlife. Over 60 forage species are regularly planted in Alabama, and it is incumbent on me to provide information and educational materials regarding establishment, management, and utilization of each of them.
My goal is to use my time as efficiently and effectively as possible in providing information about forage crops to the public so as to increase profit, enhance lifestyles, and protect the environment. Approaches I use to disseminate information include writing Extension circulars and other types of informational publications, publishing articles in farm magazines and trade journals, use of the internet, and organizing and participating in various types of educational meetings. Other activities include conducting training meetings for County Agents and others, conducting on-farm demonstrations and applied research, and serving as an advisor to persons who have specific problems or questions pertaining to forage crops.
