Research
Facilities
The Department of Agronomy and
Soils is housed in Funchess Hall and includes approximately 30 faculty,
50 graduate students, and 90 undergraduate students. Almost 50% of
the graduate students are working on Ph.D. programs. The department
is equipped for laboratory and field research and has access to laboratories
equipped for anatomy-morphology, molecular genetics physiology and
systematics. Research facilities include greenhouses, controlled environment
chambers, access to off campus units of the Agricultural Experiment
Station (over 8,500 ha). Special instrumentation that is located in
the department or that we have access to includes:
- Ammonia analyzers
- Canopy analyzer
- Carbon analyzers
- Centrifuges, including
a laboratory for ultra centrifugation
- Electrophoresis
- Gas chromatography
- High pressure liquid
chromatography
- ICPAES (inductively
coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer) for
elemental analysis
|
- Infrared spectrophotometer
- Kjeldahl systems
- Leaf area meter
- Nitrogen analyzers
- Radioisotope counting facilities
- Sulfur analyzers
- Tissue culture facilities
- Transmission and scanning electron microscopy and
NMR facilities
