2000 International Activities
- Research was conducted on the U.S. competitive position in the global economy. Collaboration with other researchers in the southern regional trade group resulted in an edited book entitled Competition in Agriculture: The United States in the World Market.
- Two adjunct professorships at the University of Tromso, Norway; faculty members (Bailey and Kinnucan) utilize consulting and leave time to offer intensive blocks of instruction during the year.
- An PD/A CRSP study of 146 practicing fish farmers in Peru showed that technical assistance varied by gender and type of farming operation, with women having less contact with Extension, and group farmers receiving more technical assistance.
- Led various delegations on Agricultural Study Tours to Eastern Europe ( Austria , Germany , Hungary and the Czech Republic ). Continued cooperation with student/faculty interchange with universities in Hungary , Poland and Germany.
Work continued on the globalization processes under S-276, have focused on aquacultural development with specific work begun with researchers at the Norwegian College of Fisheries on salmon aquaculture.
- Faculty participated in other projects and tours in China , Kazakhstan , Greece , Russia and Vietnam.
- Two CRSP projects involved: (1) a consumer preference study for U.S. and Haitian peanuts and peanut products in Haiti , and (2) a study of factors influencing the adoption and management of soil conservation techniques in Haiti . A preliminary report has been written on the peanut project, and a Masters thesis and two papers are in preparation on the soil conservation project.
- Articles on international trade: Bolivia and South America Free Trade appeared in the International Trade Journal, and Exports, Imports and Income in Taiwan in the International Economic Journal.
