M.S. in Agricultural Economics
The MS in Agricultural Economics requires a minimum of 24 semester hours of graduate credit plus 6 hours of thesis research. At least 18 hours must be economics. The program of study, including course work and thesis, includes farm management, agricultural marketing, applied production economics, agricultural prices, resource and environmental economics, applied finance, agricultural policy, or international economics. The MAg is a non-thesis option that provides a broad graduate training in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, or Rural Sociology. A minimum of 32 hours of course work is required with at least 20 hours of this in the agricultural sciences. No comprehensive written exam is required. However, 3 credit hours of AGEC 7970 or RSOC 7970, Special Problems, must be included in the Plan of Study. The special problem will involve the development of a research paper, which must be submitted to the Graduate Committee and will serve as the focus of the final oral examination. Admission requirements for the Master of Agriculture are equivalent to those for the Master of Science degrees outlined on pages 9 and 10. Students pursuing the Master of Agriculture are not eligible for hard-dollar assistantship funding. However, soft-dollar funding (e.g., from grants) may be available in some instances at the election of the principal investigator. The MBA in agribusiness or natural resource management is offered in a program coordinated with the College of Business. Admission is through the College of Business. Requirements include a total of 36 graduate credit hours, 24 in business, and 12 in economics. Contact:
