Aquacultural Economics I

Course Description:

    Principal economic factors affecting the production of aquacultural commodities, management of the firm, and financial structure of successful aquacultural operation are discussed. Theoretical concepts presented include supply-demand derivations and measurement, fiscal management, marginal analysis, market structure, price determination, the economic interface with biological production, farm management, marketing, and capital investment and aquacultural policy analysis.

Course Objectives:

    (1) Present students with an array of materials and topics regarding firm management, production economics, marketing, and decision strategies. (2) Prepare students to make decisions in the market place and in production situations.

Course Format:

    Classroom lectures are presented regularly. General class discussion and question-answer period are encouraged. Students are expected to respond to questions in every class session.

Grading System:

    Grades are awarded numerically using the standard 10-point scale to correspond with alphabetical scores. There will be two tests during the quarter plus a final examination. Each test will count 100 points and the final examination 200 points. There will be 10 assignments, 10 points each. The total points possible equal 500. The final will include material most recently covered in class plus a comprehensive review of all course contents.
