Department of Horticulture

Horticulture majors at Auburn University learn how to establish, propagate, harvest, and manage fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants. They also learn the principles of landscape design to create and manage aesthetically pleasing environments.
Students will enter into a learning environment that has been recognized nationally for its research, the relationships between faculty and students, and the high rate of employment of its graduates. Students can choose one of the three tracks offered in Nursery and Greenhouse Science, Landscape Horticulture or Fruit and Vegetable Production.

Horticulture offers students a multitude of career choices, among the most popular are:
  · Landscape designer, installation and maintenance
· Nursery or Greenhouse Management
· Fruit and Vegetable Production and Post-harvest management
· Sales Represenative
· Municipal Horticulturist
· Horticulture/Garden writer

Each fall and spring semester about 20 horticulture companies visit our department to hire students for internships or full-time positions. Typically students who complete the horticulture program at Auburn have from 3 to 5 job offers upon graduation and earn between $28,000 and $45,000.
