Students
in Animal Sciences at Auburn learn about the nutrition, breeding
management and marketing of livestock animals along with the care
and management of horses and companion animals. Graduates are prepared
for various careers in animal sciences and broader life-science
fields.
Students receive a strong foundation of the biological and physical
sciences preparing them to further their education if they choose.
Many attend graduate school or professional schools such as the
Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine or pharmacy school.
The three tracks offered by the department are Pre-Vet – Pre
Professional, Production/ Management, and a Muscle Foods Track.
These allow flexibility for students giving them an opportunity
to develop an area of expertise.

Roughly
50 percent of Animal Science graduates go on to professional schools;
10 percent go on to earn graduate degrees in specialty areas; 30
percent obtain careers in animal and life science related businesses
and agencies including pharmaceuticals, feel and pet food, animal
supplies, cooperative extension system, etc.; and another 10 percent
work daily with animals such as training horses, managing farms
and
ranches, owning pet care facilities and working in a zoo.
