What is a Maymester Abroad?

Maymester Abroad courses are three to four and week study abroad programs that take place immediately following the spring semester at an international course location.

Maymester Abroad courses are intensive versions of established courses taught by Auburn faculty members for normal academic credit. Maymester courses are part of spring registration, although they begin after the spring exam period and conclude prior to the second summer session. Auburn courses are taught by Auburn instructors in an international setting.

Maymester courses are special offerings organized in collaboration with faculty with interests or connections to particular international institutions or locations. Such courses are typically organized and promoted during the fall semester. Faculty meet with students for one or two preparatory meetings during the spring semester and travel to the international setting shortly after spring semester finals. Lectures are supplemented with visits, tours, and other experiences that complement the course material. Grades are submitted retroactively to spring semester enrollment.

Faculty in any department can propose to teach a Maymester courses and collaborate with the Office of International Agriculture to organize the experience. Courses are typically scheduled to facilitate group or independent travel to surrounding areas or events on weekends.

COURSE NOW AVAILABLE: Professor Henry Thompson is offering a course in International Economics at the University of Peloponnese in Tripolis, Arcadia, Greece in Maymester 2009.
