AUBURN UNIVERSITY

College of Agriculture Discretionary GRANT PROGRAM

 

I.                    This is a restricted program which provides small grants for publication assistance, travel, or other research support not exceeding $1000 annually.  Requests will be considered at any time during the year. Awards are made at the discretion of the Dean of the College of Agriculture.

II.                 All awards are contingent upon the availability of funds at the time of application. Other restrictions may apply as in the case of multiple requests from a single department. A faculty member may request up to two awards during any fiscal year not to exceed a total of $1000.

III.               Any tenure-track or tenured faculty member of Auburn University with an appointment in the College of Agriculture and with an active plan of work in the form of an AAES (Hatch or Multi-State Research) project are eligible to apply.  Instructors and faculty on limited term appointments are not eligible for participation.  Awards are restricted for support of the following: 

1.      purchase of necessary research equipment and supplies; 

2.      travel expenses (see below); 

3.       secretarial, computational, laboratory, and other needed assistance in gathering or processing data; 

4.       release time;  or

5.       publication assistance.

IV.              Requests should be submitted on a Discretionary Research Grant Application in original hard copy to AAES, 101 Comer Hall. 

V.                 When possible, appropriate documents (original purchase order, voucher, Request for Authority to Travel, etc.) should accompany the application.

VI.              Discretionary grants requiring establishment of an account for approved expenditures (as for a small research project) may be administered the same as competitive grants.

Travel requests.  If a request for funding is for assistance to attend a professional meeting, matching funds ($1 to $1, with match provided by the PI or PIs dept) are required.  In addition, Regardless of travel destination, page 1 of the Request for Authority to Travel (RAT) should be submitted as an estimate of travel costs.
