NATIONAL CHAMPS — The Auburn University Soil Judging Team claimed the title as the 2003 National Collegiate Soil Judging Champions in national competition held in early April at Texas A&M University.

Showing off the first-place trophy are, first row, from left, AU junior Ellen Knight of Wadley and seniors Christina van Santen of Auburn and Deana Lasater of Hazelgreen; second row, from left, senior Stan Usery Jr. of Athens; sophomores Bryan Stone of Hartselle and Brandon Dillard of Hartford; and team coach Joey Shaw, assistant professor of agronomy at AU. All six team members are agronomy majors at Auburn. The last time Auburn placed first in the competition was in 1986.
