IN MEMORIAM

Jim Adams

Jim F. Adams, 53, of Auburn and a CoAg professor of agronomy and soils, died May 8 at his home in Auburn.

Adams was born Jan. 12, 1953, in Beruit, Lebanon. He moved to Auburn at age 2 1/2 and grew up in Auburn, graduated from Auburn High School, received his B.S. and M.S. from Auburn University and the Ph.D. from Kansas State University.

He spent three years in the U.S. Air Force, and joined the CoAg faculty in the Department of Agronomy and Soils in 1985. Adams taught introductory and graduate courses in soil science and soil chemistry. An avid boatsman, Adams led numerous expeditions down the Chattahoochee River to the Florida coast.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Ann Adams of Auburn; parents, Dr. and Mrs. Fred Adams of Auburn; sister, Marilyn Blanton (Bill) of Auburn; nieces, Pat DiMatteo (Tom) of Ft. Mill, S.C., Karen Metcalf (Dave) of Snellville, Ga.; and a nephew, David Stanfield (Amy) of Lanett. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Kathleen Adams.
