"A turtle in the hand"

hatchling turtle on

A hatchling musk turtle, one of nine species found in the Davis Arboretum, was discovered near the Arboretum pond this summer.  Patrick Thompson, who snapped the photo of the turtle perched on his own thumb, was removing weeds around the pond when he uncovered the hatchling. The Arboretum’s fauna and flora are the subject of many of Thompson’s photos, which have been featured in several Arboretum calendars. Calendars for 2010 will be available soon and will feature more of Thompson’s photos taken with a newly acquired macrolens along with images from the Arboretum’s annual photo contest. They should be spectacular!

Picture This! is the College of Ag's online feature that showcases photography by members of the Ag family. Thanks to all faculty, staff and students who've already sent in photos! KEEP THOSE PICTURES COMING! The photos don't have to be college- or Auburn- or agriculture-related, either; just great shots you'd like to share with the rest of us.

To submit a photo for Picture This!, e-mail it to AgComm@auburn.edu. Include your name, the date and location of the photo, person(s) in the photo and any other info you'd like folks to know about the photo. Look for a new Picture This! photo every other Wednesday.
