DAIRY BARN CONSTRUCTION

The Agricultural Alumni Association has launched a new project aimed at preserving Auburn University's rich agricultural history and increasing agriculture's visibility on campus.
At the October 11, 2007 meeting of the Agricultural Alumni Association Board of Directors, the board voted to take an active role in a fund-raising drive for the construction of the Dairy Barn at Ag Heritage Park. This project will preserve the historical integrity of this architecturally iconic structure and ensure that it remains as a strong presence on campus.
The partnership has been developed with the AU College of Architecture and Design and Auburn's Rural Studio program which will significantly reduce construction costs. Overall budget for construction of the new facility is projected at $1.5 million.
The goal of the project is to provide an entry facility to the Park that will work to solidify the position fo the Park on campus and give the College of Agriculture and agriculture in Alabama a whole new tool in spreading the message of our industry. The new facility will have a multi-media area to showcase the past, present and future of Agriculture; meeting areas in which classes can be taught, industry meetings held, or company interviews conducted; retail areas to market home-grown Alabama products (primarily from rural communities); and office space. The Dairy Barn will become the permanent home for the Ag Alumni Association!
Jim Tollison, current President of the Ag Alumni Association, is excited about this very worthwhile project. In a letter to the board, he asked that:
"...we each take a moment to reflect on how we have been blessed and what a large part of our lives is connected to Auburn and the Auburn Family. Many of us have benefitted from the past kindnesses of others in regards to facilities and programs at Auburn. Now we have an excellent opportunity to make a similar type of contribution." |
