FORAGE AND BEEF FIELD DAY AND TOUR PLANNED FOR CAMDEN STATION

CAMDEN, Ala. - A Forage and Beef Field Day and Tour will be held March 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lower Coastal Plain Station (LCPS) in Camden, according to Station Superintendent Joe Little.

The event, which is co-sponsored by the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station (AAES) and Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES), will feature information on grazing, creep feeding, pine plantings in pastures and clover and ryegrass production.

Registration begins at 12:45 p.m., followed by a welcome from Little. Presentations from faculty at Auburn University and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be made in the station's auditorium, followed by a tour.

Included on the program will be AU Agronomist Don Ball, who will speak on methods beef cattle producers can use to extend their grazing seasons. AU Animal and Dairy Scientist Darrell Rankins will discuss alternatives for creep feeding, and Sid Brantly, with NRCS, and Leo Hollinger, an area cattleman, will discuss planting pines in pastures. The tour will take participants out on the Station, an outlying research unit of the AAES, to view sod-seeded clover/ryegrass and to Hollinger Farms to view pine plantings in pastures.
