Research Goals and Objectives: The primary objective of the aquatic animal nutrition program is to expand our understanding of the nutritional requirements of species of economic importance and to facilitate the continued development of commercial rations for use in supplemental feed systems. In addition to diet development work, we also conduct research pertaining to feeding technigues or practices as well as intensive culture technologies. Species that are typically available for laboratory research include both marine (red drum, red snapper, pacific white shrimp) and freshwater (catfish, tilapia, bluegill, largemouth bass, redclaw crayfish) fish and crustaceans species.
